Day 40: Auckland
Arrived in Auckland after the 13 hour flight from Los Angeles. Had some of the worst turbulence I can ever remember about halfway through, which was fun! We weren’t feeling too jet lagged when we arrived - we’d taken off at night and landed in the morning so it felt normal, but we’d lost an entire day because we crossed the date line. I can’t get that back now, could have done so much.
Checked in to the hostel and got some breakfast nearby. Did some wandering, walked to the place we were hiring the van from to see if we could get it a few days sooner as we had decided (had been told) there wasn’t much to do in Auckland. We could get the van whenever we wanted so decided just to stay 3 nights in the hostel then hit the open road. Cooked ourselves some dinner then went to bed.
Quiet day in Auckland catching up on life. Did some shopping, bought NZ phones, got a hair cut and caught up with some people back home online. At night we met up with a friend of Grant’s from back home who’s living in Auckland for a few beers.
Last day in Auckland, we did some more wandering and found a few shops we could pick up stuff we would need for the van. Did a load of washing (much needed) and had another quiet night, ready to pick up the van first thing!
